Surfing Inspired Sunglasses : The Shield

Surfing inspired sunglasses like the The Shield sunglasses from Dragon Alliance are the brain-child of two-time ASP World Champion Mick Fanning, who knows a thing or two about style and spending some serious time in the sun. In-fact these surfing inspired sunglasses are said to be Dragon Alliance's most technically advanced release to-date! The Shield sunglasses are touted as lightweight and comfortable, with a super durable "Grilamid" frame, which sports an ultra stylish wrap around fit.

After being approached by Dragon to test and review their Jam Series sunglasses a few weeks ago, we only thought it would be appropriate to test and review their latest and greatest product to hit the market as well, and see if it's worthy of the BeSportier seal of approval.mick-fanning-the-shield.jpg And now after spending several weeks with our very own pair of Shield sunglasses (we tested the Jet / Green Ion Polar version, pictured below at the bottom left corner), we're happy to bring you the results of our testing. Enjoy!

The Shield Key Features:

  • 16 Lens Options (pictured above)
  • 8 Base Polycarbonate Lens
  • 5 Barrel Stainless Steel Hinge

The Review:

Comfort: When testing sunglasses for comfort there are typically two areas you need to look out for - the bridge of the nose and the ears. These are the two areas where the sunglasses actually attach and rest upon your face. When testing the The Shield sunglasses neither of these areas were ever a concern for our crew of testers, even after hours of extended wear. However for those of you with a wider head/face, the somewhat narrow frame of these sunglasses may prove to be a bit of a comfort issue. Not sure if you have a wide head/face... We suggest you try these on before drop some dough on them.

dragon-alliance-shield-sunglasses-review.jpgStyling: What more can we say? These sunglasses look totally bad-ass! And with the variety of 16 different lens options to choose from it's hard to think you won't find the perfect match for your style.

Durability: When it comes to sunglasses the "made in Italy" stamp means everything! And the fact that Dragon uses a Grilamid frame is a huge bonus because of it's extreme light weight and super flexibility. Not to mention it's heat resistant, so they won't melt to your face after a long day in the sun!

Optics: We didn't expect anything special in this department, but yet again Dragon Alliance continues to surprise us with excellent optics that could rival some of the top manufactures in the game. Our green polar version or The Shield were and excellent representation of this.

Value: For the price these sunglasses are an excellent value! Let's put it this way... You could pay much more somewhere else for a far less superior product. The price tag you see on this pair of sunglasses is actually on par with the value, and that's something that's rare to see in today's market.

“Fast & Furious” Veteran Justin Lin to Direct “True Detective?”  — Complex.com
The time is coming perilously close where HBO will have to start revealing details of Season 2 of True Detective, and while this latest rumor is not one of the casting variety, it's still a pretty juicy detail.
